Our Christian Ethos

At the heart of Marah’s work is the belief that every human being is of immense value in the eyes of God and that God’s unconditional love is extended to all. As Jesus says to his disciples “God makes the sun shine on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous”.

We believe that every individual has the potential to make a new start in life and to journey towards the wholeness and healing that God wishes for each of us. We believe that such a journey often requires the persevering love, acceptance and support which Marah seeks to offer.

Marah’s work is also inspired by Jesus’ words in the parable of the final judgement (Matthew 25:31-46) through which we learn that Christ is mysteriously present in the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick and the imprisoned and that we encounter Christ through loving action in favour of the vulnerable and the outcast.

Our Christian Ethos recognises the value of all people and we will not discriminate against any person or other organisation on the grounds of race, ethnic origin, disability, gender, sexuality, age, class, appearance, religion, responsibility for dependants or any other matter which causes a person to be treated with injustice.

Marah’s volunteers and staff come from a range of backgrounds including those of other faiths or none. It is our policy that we do not promote our faith to our clients or fellow workers. Our faith is shown through the love, respect and forgiveness we give and share with those around us.
